McIntyre Named NEC Player of the Week
Senior Tyler McIntyre was named the Northeast Conference baseball Player of the Week on Monday. McIntyre and the Blue Devils went on the road to Navy and won three out of four. McIntyre played a big role in each game for the Blue Devils.
McIntyre was the Blue Devils' top run producer in a season-opening series victory at Navy. The reigning all-NEC first team first baseman started his senior season by going 8-for-16 (.500) at the plate with five runs scored and five runs batted in over a four-game set with the Midshipmen.
He opened the series with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate and again went 3-for-5 in the finale. McIntyre's first plate appearance of the season resulted in two runs for the Blue Devils. Going up against preseason all-Patriot League hurler Ben Nelson, CCSU's first baseman lined a two-run single to centerfield and the Blue Devils would not look back in an eventual 7-1 triumph. He added an RBI double in the ninth inning for insurance.
McIntyre was held hitless during the first half of Saturday's doubleheader, which ended as a 3-2 setback for CCSU. The 6-foot-4 thumper came back with a pair of hits, including a third-inning single that plated Dylan DelaCruz with the team's fourth run, to help CCSU to a 4-2 win in the nightcap. His three hits and three runs scored led Central Connecticut to a 6-4 victory in Sunday's series finale.
McIntyre's eight hits and five RBI led all players in the four-game series. He flawlessly fielded his position as well, playing four error-free games at first base.
