Baseball Falls to UConn in Extras

The Central Connecticut baseball team fell to the University of Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon in Winter Haven, Florida.  A 1-1 tie forced the Blue Devils (2-4) and Huskies (10-8) to extra innings, but UConn plated five runs in the top of the 10th to take the game 6-1.

After junior Jesse Frawley retired the Huskies in order in the top of the first, CCSU plated the game's first run in the bottom of the frame.  Sophomore Jeff Osak doubled down the left field line to start the inning and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Dominic Severino.

UConn quickly tied the score on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Sullivan in the top of the second.

Frawley limited the Huskies to one run in the top of the second despite allowing three straight singles to load the bases with no one out.  Frawley induced an infield pop-up and two fly outs to work his way out of the jam with just one UConn base runner crossing the plate.

After the second inning Frawley settled in and limited the Huskies to a pair of hits and two walks over the next five innings.

Frawley was lifted for a relief pitcher after tossing seven innings and limiting UConn to just one run on five hits.  He struck out two and walked two.

Severino tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth in relief of Frawley, but surrendered five runs in the top of the 10th inning to suffer the loss.  His record falls to 0-2 on the season.

David Mahoney earned the victory for the Huskies with one inning of scoreless relief.

Osak was on base four times in the game.  He was the only CCSU player to record two hits and he also walked a pair of times.

The Blue Devils will travel to Daytona Beach for a three game series with Bethune-Cookman this weekend.
