Blue Devils Win Second Straight at Bethune Cookman

The Central Connecticut baseball team won its second straight game on the road at Bethune Cookman on Saturday, winning 8-6, and moving to 4-4 overall on the season.  The two teams will finish the weekend series with a single game at 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Central struck first with a run in the first and three more in the second to take a 4-0 lead.  An RBI single from senior Anthony Turgeon started the scoring.  In the second sophomore Connor Fitzsimons scored on a wild pitch and an RBI triple from senior J.P. Sportman made it 3-0.  Sportman scored on an error on the play pushing the lead to 4-0.

Bethune Cookman scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to cut it to 4-2.  Central answered with two more in the third to make it 6-2.  Sophomore Jeff Osak's RBI followed by an RBI groudout from freshman Jake Patton make it a four-run advantage for the Blue Devils.

Bethune Cookman answered again, scoring once in the fourth and three times in the fifth inning to tie the game 6-6.

The Blue Devils took the lead again in the top of the eighth inning.  Patton singled with one out and freshman Yuri Morin pinch ran for Patton.  Morin stole second and went to third on a single from Sportman.  Barrett's fielder's choice score Morin from third to make it 7-6.  Junior Dominic Severino singled to load the bases and then Turgeon walked to make it 8-6.  The RBI was the second of the game for Turgeon.

Central had 17 hits in the victory, including three each from Sportman, Patton and Severino.  Turgeon drove in two runs and had two hits.  Fitzsimons added two hits and scored twice.  Sportman also added two runs.

Senior Nick Boyd earned the win in relief, pitching two innings without allowing a hit or a run and striking out three.  Senior Anthony Mannuccia picked up his first save for the Blue Devils, pitching the last two innings without allowing a run on just one hit.
