Ingham Paces Baseball to Win at Holy Cross

Senior Josh Ingham had three hits, drove in two runs and picked up the save on the mound as the Central Connecticut baseball team topped Holy Cross on the road on Tuesday night, 6-4, in non-league action.  The win pushes Central's record to 10-9 overall on the season.  Ingham ran his hitting streak to 11 games in the victory.  The save is his fifth of the season.

Central scored one in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead against the Crusaders.

In the second an RBI double from sophomore catcher Connor Fitzsimons scored Ingham with the game's first run.  Ingham had singled to lead off the inning and went to third on a pair of groundouts.

The lead reached 2-0 in the third inning on an RBI single from Ingham, his second hit of the game.  The hit scored classmate Anthony Turgeon who had walked earlier in the inning.

Three runs in the fourth pushed the lead to 5-0.  Freshman Pat Sirois singled in the first run and classmate Jake Patton scored on a balk making it 4-0.  An RBI single from Turgeon scored the third run of the inning.

The Crusaders scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-2.  They added one in the seventh and another in the eighth to cut the lead to 5-4.

An RBI double from Ingham in the ninth scored senior J.P. Sportman, who had doubled, and the lead was 6-4.  The hit was the third for Ingham and his second RBI.  He is 12 for his last 19 at the plate.

Fitzsimons also had three hits in the game and drove in one.  Sportman and Sirois each had a pair of hits.

Ingham was the fourth pitcher of the night for the Blue Devils.  Junior Dominic Severino pitched 2.1 innings allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out one.  He earned the win.  Ingham went 1.2 innings allowing one hit while striking out two for the save.  Freshman Brett Susi pitched 3.2 innings allowing three hits and two runs.  Classmate Kevin Connolly went 1.1 innings allowing two hits and a pair of runs.

The Blue Devils return to action this weekend in a Northeast Conference road series at Bryant.  On Friday the two teams will play a single game at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
