Baseball Drops a Pair at Bryant on Saturday

The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on the road at Bryant on Saturday afternoon.  Central lost the first game 2-0 and then fell 12-4 in the second.  With the losses the Blue Devils are now 10-12 overall and 2-5 in Northeast Conference play.  Bryant improves to 22-9 overall and 3-0 in league action.

Senior Nick Neumann pitched well in the opener for the Blue Devils but picked up the loss in the 2-0 contest.  He allowed a pair of first innings runs and struck out one batter but fell to 1-3 on the season.  Neumann allowed just six hits in six innings of work.

Central had five hits in the opener but could not push a run across the board.  Junior Dominic Severino had two of the hits in the loss.  He is 6-for-8 in the three games vs. Bryant this weekend.

In the second game the Blue Devils struck first with a run in the top of the first inning.  Freshman Pat Sirois hit his first career home run, and the first of the season for the Blue Devils, to give Central the early 1-0 lead.

It didn't last long, however, as Bryant answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  They pushed the lead to 7-1 with a five-run third inning, and then added two more in the fourth to make it 9-1.

The Blue Devils answered putting three on the board in the top of the fifth inning.  Sirois drove in his second run of the game and later a sacrifice fly from senior J.P. Sportman scored the second run.  An error on a ball hit by senior Josh Ingham scored the third run of the inning and made it 9-4.

Bryant answered again with one in the fifth and two in the sixth to make it 12-4.

Sirois ended game two 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Blue Devils and Bulldogs will end the weekend series with a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
