Baseball Drops Finale to Fairfield on Sunday

The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped the series finale to Fairfield on Sunday, 3-1, falling to 20-17 overall on the season.  The The two teams combined for just eight hits on the day and the game lasted just over two hours.  The Stags are now 26-19 on the year.

The Stags struck first with a run in the top of the second inning off of Blue Devil freshman starter Matt Blandino.  The Blue Devils tied it in the bottom of the second.  Freshman Franklin Jennings singled with one out and then scored on a two-out RBI single from classmate Pat Sirois.

Fairfield took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI groundout from Dean Sadik with one out.  Blandino had set down seven straight before a leadoff double from Sal Ciccone to begin the inning.

The Stag lead reached 3-1 on a one out squeeze play in the top of the sixth inning.  Jack Giannini's squeeze scored Ryan Plourde to make it a two-run lead for the visitors.

Blandino went eight innings allowing just four hits while striking out two batters.  He allowed three earned runs and is now 2-3 on the season.  Sirois ended the game with a pair of hits and the long RBI for the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils return to Northeast Conference action at home beginning on Friday, hosting LIU Brooklyn for a four-game NEC series, beginning at 3 p.m.
