Three Blue Devils Earn All-Conference Honors

Three Central Connecticut baseball players earned All-Northeast Conference honors on Wednesday night at the annual pre-tournament barbecue held at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT.  Senior Josh Ingham, JP Sportman and Nick Neumann were honored for their performance during the 2014 season which saw Central finish as the #2 seed in the upcoming tournament.

Ingham earned a pair of honors, making the First Team as a second baseman the Second Team as a relief pitcher.  Sportman was named to the First Team in the outfield while Neumann was named to the Second Team as a pitcher.

Ingham's relief pitcher numbers have been fantastic again this season for the Blue Devils.  Already the school's all-time saves leader heading into his senior season, he has added eight saves this year for a total of 27 in his career.  He leads the team with a 1.96 ERA and has allowed only four earned runs all season. At the plate Ingham leads the Blue Devils in hitting at .340 and is tied for the team lead in runs batted in with 23.  His 54 hits are second only to Sportman and his on-base percentage of .395 also leads the Blue Devils.

Sportman leads the team in hits with 59 and is fifth in school history with 244 career hits.  He is also eighth in career RBI (123) including 32 this season.  He also ranks in the top-10 in doubles (48), triples (13), total bases (357) and stolen bases (37).

Neumann was almost perfect in NEC play this season, sporting a 4-1 record with a 1.00 ERA.  He pitched four complete games and allowed only four earned runs in 36 total innings of work, while recording one save.  Opponents hit .234 vs. Neumann in league play.
