Baseball Downed at Navy on Friday

The Central Connecticut baseball team opened its weekend on Friday, falling at Navy, 7-3,  at Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium. The Midshipmen scored five runs in the first three innings and held off the Blue Devils rally.

CCSU slips to 5-6 on the season, while Navy is now 5-7.

Navy scored in each of the first three innings to build a 5-0 lead. The Mids got two runs in the first inning, a run in the second and another two more off a home run from Stephen Born in the third inning.

A pair of RBI singles in the fifth pushed Navy's lead to 7-0 before the Blue Devils mounted a late rally.

Junior Ron Jackson opened the sixth inning with a walk and moved to second on a single by junior Dean Lockery. Freshman Buddy Dewaine followed two batters later with a one-out single to bring home Jackson and get CCSU on the board.

Central loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Freshman Chris Kanios delivered a single to right field to drive in junior Nick Garland and Dewaine to make it 7-3. The Mids were able to end the threat by getting a fielder's choice to end the inning and then retired the Blue Devils in order in the ninth.

Dewaine and Lockery each had two hits to pace the Blue Devils at the plate. CCSU finished with seven singles on the day. 

Senior Brendan Smith started and suffered the loss for CCSU. Noah Song got the win for Navy as he struck out seven over 6.0 innings.

Born finished with three hits and three RBIs for Navy as the Mids combined for 13 hits as a team.

Central is back in action on Saturday morning against Marist. The teams will play at 10:30 a.m. at Max Bishop Stadium.
