Second Half Comeback Leads Mount to Win at CCSU

The Central Connecticut men's basketball team held a 15-point halftime lead, but Mount St. Mary's would score 57 second half points and shoot 56 percent from the field in the period to pull off an 87-76 win on the road in New Britain on Thursday night.

The loss moves the Blue Devils to 9-17 overall and 5-8 in Northeast Conference play.  They sit in eighth place in the league after the loss.  The Mount is 11-14 overall and 7-5 in the league with the win.

Junior Faronte Drakeford led the Blue Devil offense with 17 points, he was 7-of-17 from the field and added a block and a steal.  Junior Malcolm McMillan added 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while also dishing out five assists and grabbing four boards.

The Mount was led by Sam Prescott who had 19 points and eight rebounds.  Taylor Danaher added 17 points and eight boards, as the Mount outrebounded CCSU 44-32.

Central led 45-30 at halftime after a near halfcourt shot from junior De'Angelo Speech was good before the half.  Central shot 56 percent from the field in the half, hitting 19-of-34 shots, including 6-of-11 from three.  The Mount shot just 35 percent and made only 13-of-37.

But the roles were reversed in the second half, as the Mount scored 57 points and hit 15-of-27 from the field and 6-of-11 from three after halftime.  They were 21-of-21 from the line in the second half, and 23-of-25 from the line in the game.

Central turned the ball over just 11 times for the second straight game, but in the second half hit only 13-of-35 from the field and 1-of-8 from three.  They had just 31 second half points.

Freshman Matt Mobley added 12 points and hit a pair of threes for the Blue Devils.  He also had four assists.  The Blue Devils had 16 assists in the game on 32 total baskets.

Central returns to action on the road at Bryant on Saturday at 4 p.m.
