Men's Basketball Takes On LIU Brooklyn at Home Saturday

The Central Connecticut men's basketball team will be looking to continue its winning ways at Detrick Gymnasium when it welcomes LIU Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. The game will tip off at 3:30 p.m. as part of a CCSU basketball doubleheader with the women's game tipping off at 1:00 p.m. The Blue Devils have won two straight overall and are 6-1 at Detrick Gymnasium on the year.

The Blue Devils defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 66-65, on Thursday when junior Deion Bute slammed home the game-winner with 3.4 seconds to play. The Blackbirds downed Bryant, 83-79, to win their third straight. CCSU is 10-10 (3-4 NEC) on the season, while LIU is 9-11 (4-3 NEC)and currently tied for third in the league standings.

Tickets for CCSU home games can be purchased at CCSUTickets.com or at the box office upon entry to Kaiser Hall and Detrick Gymnasium. Admission for all CCSU students, faculty and staff is free of charge with a valid Blue Chip card.

TODAY'S GAME • Central Connecticut closes out a three-game homestand with a game against LIU Brooklyn. The Blue Devils have won two straight and are now 6-1 at home following Thursday's win. SERIES HISTORY • The Blue Devils and Blackbirds are meeting for the 43rd time in a series that dates back to 1964. LIU Brooklyn holds a narrow, 22-20, edge in the all-time series. CCSU won the last meeting, 61-52, on Jan. 28, 2017.
 
LAST TIME OUT • CCSU got a career-high 22 points from junior Deion Bute, including the game-winning dunk with 3.4 seconds to play, in a 66-65 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday. Bute shot 9-of-10 from the floor, helping the Blue Devils lead for much of the game. The Knights would take a brief one-point lead with 0:10 to play, but CCSU would have a chance to set up a final play. Junior Tyler Kohl drove the lane and fed Bute for the winning dunk. FDU drew a foul on the ensuing inbounds, but missed the resulting foul shot and Central grabbed the rebound.
 
UP NEXT • Central takes to the road for four straight games, beginning with a trip to Bryant on Jan. 25. CCSU will return home Thursday, Feb. 8, against Mount St. Mary's.
