Central Connecticut sophomore Monte Mullen (75/67/79/80/301) of the Blue Devil men's golf team finished tied for 32nd after the final round of the New England Amateur Championship on Wednesday. Christopher Swift (68/69/73/72/282) of Connecticut claimed the tournament championship at one-over par.
The 83rd Annual New England Amateur Championship was held at Falmouth Country Club in Falmouth, ME. Golfers who were eligible for the tournament must have had a USGA/GHIN Handicap Index of no more than 5.4. Athletes from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont made up the event's field.
Falmouth Country Club is a par 71 course that plays 6,798 yards long. The three day tournament began on Tuesday, July 17th with the second round being played on Wednesday, July 18th. Thursday was the third and fourth (final) rounds of the tournament.
Mullen penciled in a 75 on day one of the event registering two birdies and making par on 11 of 18 holes. Day two saw seven birdies from Mullen which placed him tied for fifrth after marking down an impressive 67 for the day. Mullen shot a 79 in round three and finished off with an 80 in the tournament's final round. The Blue Devil recorded a total of 301 strokes which put him at +17 to par.
