Men's Golf Climbs to Fifth at UConn Cup

The Central Connecticut men's golf team shot a third round team scored of 292, matching the best score of the entire round by any team, and climbed four spots to finish in fifth place at the UConn Cup held at Ellington Ridge Country Club on Tuesday.  The Blue Devils shot a three-round score of 897 (307-298-292) to finish in the top-five.  The third round was completed on Tuesday.

Senior Monte Mullen shot a three round score of 219 (+3) to finish in a tie for seventh place overall. 

The Blue Devils shot nine strokes better in round two than they did in round one, and then bettered their second round by six more strokes on Tuesday.  They were 11th after the first round, ninth after the second and finished in fifth after the final round.

Sophomore Matt Hills fired an even par round of 72 on Tuesday to finish at 225 (+9) for the tournament in a tie for 22nd place.  his 72 was the best round of the day for the Blue Devils.  Freshman Brandon Raine shot 73, as did junior Jack Ayers.  Raine finished at 227 (+11) in a tie for 34th place.  Ayers finished at 228 (+12) in a tie for 42nd.  Junior Connor Murphy finished at 242 after a round of 74 on Tuesday.  He was in a tie for 80th place overall.  He improved to 12 strokes from his first round score of 86.

Playing as an individual sophomore Matthew Mahlke shot 81-79-78 to finish at 238 (+22) in a tie for 76th place overall.
