Qualter Sweeps NEC Weekly Awards

Central Connecticut rookie defender Conor Qualter swept the Northeast Conference weekly awards this week, it was announced on Monday by the conference office.  Qualter and the Blue Devils were the lone NEC men's soccer team to open the weekend 2-0, with a home win over LIU Brooklyn and a road win over Sacred Heart.

Central has now won five of its last six matches, and sits 5-5-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.  They return to action on the road on Saturday at Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m.

Qualter had a standout week for the Blue Devils as he scored a pair of goals, both of which were game-winners.  He had not scored a goal in any of his first nine collegiate contests, but produced a pair of game-winners during NEC Opening Weekend.

Qualter notched his first career goal in the final minute of the first half during CCSU's conference opener against LIU Brooklyn.  The 6-foot-2 freshman controlled a cross from the right side and buried the ball past the keeper for the lone tally the Blue Devils would need in the eventual 2-0 win.  Qualter scored again two days later at Sacred Heart, doing so in dramatic fashion.  He delivered the golden goal 2:12 into overtime, lifting CCSU to a 4-3 win over the rival Pioneers.  The Blue Devils had trailed 3-1 in the first half of the match, but scored the final three goals of the match for the win.
