Men's Track & Field Competes at IC4A & NEICAAA Championships Friday

The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team was split between the IC4A Championships and the NEICAAA Championships on Friday afternoon. Select Blue Devils posted qualifying times in their respective events over the course of the regular season to be eligible to race this weekend at each meet. The IC4A Championships are being hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, NJ from Friday to Sunday while the NEICAAA Championships are being held at Southern Connecticut in New Haven, CT on Friday and Saturday.

Three Blue Devils competed at the IC4A Championships on Friday led by senior Matt Walker who posted a fifth place finish in the men's 10,000 meter run. Walker earned the fifth place finish after crossing the finish line with a season-best time of 30:30.33.

Sophomore Alex Norstrom also competed in the men's 10,000 meter run and turned in a new collegiate-best time of 30:57.74 on his way to a 12th place overall finish in the event.

Austin Trainor was the final Blue Devil to compete at the IC4A Championships on Friday. Trainor ran in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and recorded a top-10 finish coming in ninth after running a huge new personal-best time of 9:01.85. His previous best time in the event was 9:10.62.

Meanwhile, sophomore Tyler Latham led four Blue Devils who competed at the NEICAAA Championships on Friday in New Haven. Latham recorded the best finish on the opening day of the NEICAAA Championships posting a 10th place finish in the javelin. Latham fired the implement 56.88 meters to record the result.

Junior James Frey joined Latham in the javelin and finished 21st overall. He launched the javelin 50.50 meters to earn the finish.

NEC pole vault champion, Sam Borecki, competed at the NEICAAA Championships on Friday and recorded an 11th place finish. The sophomore cleared 4.55 meters to earn the result.

In the men's 5,000 meter run, freshman Roberto Piotto turned in a 19th place finish out of 29 runners with a collegiate-best time of 15:25.64. His previous personal-best time in the 5K was 15:31.67.

The CCSU men's outdoor track and field team will be back in action on Saturday as the team is split once again between the NEICAAA Championships and the IC4A Championships.
