Alston to Run at National Championship, Track to Compete at IC4A/ECAC Finals

The Central Connecticut 60 meter hurdle school record holder (7.94), sophomore Edwin Alston, will take his talents to the USA Indoor National Championships held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. Alston heads into the meet ranked sixth in the regional IC4A standings, and 57th out of all Division 1 affiliates.

Alston will run Sunday, March 5, in the semi's at approximately 3:57 p.m. ET (1:57 p.m. MST) in the second heat, against a lineup of predominately professional athletes, sponsered by endorsers such as, Nike, Adidas... etc.

Alston is only the second Blue Devil in school history to qualify and compete at the USA T&F Indoor Nationals. The last athlete to do so, was Ronea Saunders during the 2015 indoor season for the high jump event. Saunders finished in seventh place with a jump of 1.71 meter (5' 7.25").

Meanwhile, back in the northeast, three men and two women Central Connecticut track and field athletes will head to Boston University for the IC4A/ECAC Championships, Friday-Sunday, March 3-5.

IC4A/ECAC CHAMPIONSHIP INFO

Junior Tyler Latham will be the first to compete at the BU Track & Tennis Center on Friday, March 3 in the IC4A Heptathalon, beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET. Latham's point total of 5,019 set back on Dec. 10, at the 2016 Elm City Challenge, ranks the junior in 17th in the regional standings.

The 800 meter dash trials will feature sophomore Richard Grudzwick and senior Malcolm Connor at 11:35 a.m. ET Saturday. Grudzwick, enters the race ranked 11th for his school record-breaking marking of 1:49.90, ran last weekend at the NEICAAA Championships.

Senior Melissa Wolliston, the female 60 meter hurdle school record-holder, will run in the ECAC trial race at 3:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Rounding out the New Britain competitors, is second year Blue Devil and NEC Triple Jump Champion, Sierra Nesmith. Nesmith is scheduled to compete in the triple jump at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 5.
