Grudzwick Wins 1,500 to Pace CCSU at Larry Ellis Invitational

Sophomore Richard Grudzwick took first place in the 1,500 meter run at the Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational to lead the Central Connecticut men's track and field team at Weaver Stadium on Saturday. Grudzwick bested a field of 50 runners with a personal record breaking time of 3:51.28.

Senior Darryn Horner placed 23rd overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.11 seconds. Freshman Darius Wise finished 27th with a personal best time of 11.16 seconds and rookie Miles Fye-Moore placed 34th with a time of 11.29 seconds.

In the 200 meter dash, Wise finished 28th with a time of 22.49 seconds and Fye-Moore was 32nd with a time of 22.59 seconds. Sophomore Jack St. Clair finished in 35th place with a time of 51.57 seconds.

Junior Adonys Langual represented CCSU in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.35, good for 31st place. Sophomore Julio Arredondo edged a new personal best time in the 1,500 meter run, clocking in at 4:03.05.

Both junior Quincy Sanchez and senior Tyler Latham competed in the 110 meter preliminary round, but did not qualify for the finals. Sanchez ran a time of 14.93 seconds and Latham set a new personal record time of 15.15 seconds.

Latham locked into his second personal record of the day in the 400 meter hurdles, placing 10th overall with a time of 54.26. Sanchez was 16th with a time of 55.80 seconds.

The Blue Devils 4x100 meter relay team of Horner, Latham, Fye-Moore and Wise ran an IC4A qualifying, season-best time of 42.35 seconds to finish fourth. The 4x400 meter relay squad of St. Clair, Grudzwick, Latham and Sanchez placed 12th with a time of 3:25.24.

In the high jump, sophomore Kevorni Welsh tied for 12th place after clearing the 1.90 meter mark. Sophomore Marquis Ward led Central in the long jump with a personal record mark of 6.87 meters to place seventh in the standings. Sophomore Jarred Creech finished 16th with a distance of 6.34 meters.

Welsh placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.05 meters.

The Central Connecticut track and field teams will host the annual CCSU Blue Devil Invite on next Saturday, April 28. More meet information will be released later in the week.
