Hubbell, Eberhardt Named NEC Scholar-Athletes

Central Connecticut seniors Patrick Hubbell and Elizabeth Eberhardt were each named Northeast Conference Scholar-Athletes on Thursday.  Hubbell won the NEC Individual Title this past fall as the Blue Devils won their sixth staight NEC championship.  Eberhardt also won the individual title on the women's side giving the Blue Devils a sweep of the two races.

The NEC named Scholar-Athletes in all six fall sports on Thursday.  Central was one of three schools to have multiple student-athletes honored among the six sports.

The Blue Devils also had 57 student-athletes named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll, which honors those fall student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or highers.  Additionally, 13 Blue Devils were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, honoring those with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or above.

This past fall, at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Hubbell became the fifth different Blue Devil to win the individual title in the last five years. He joined Ry Sanderson, Sam Alexander, Colbe Delbene and Craig Hunt as the top finishers for CCSU during the six-year stretch of team titles.  Hubbell won with a time of 25:22.58 over the 8K course.

Eberhardt finished with a time of 17:27.57, which was three seconds faster than the second place finisher.  She averaged a 6:08 mile in the victory, claiming the individual title in her final season with the Blue Devils.  She also earns an All-Conference selection with her victory and was named the 2014 NEC Outstanding Performer of the race.
