Cross Country to Host 15th Annual Ted Owen Invitational Saturday

The Central Connecticut men's and women's cross country teams will host the 15th Annual Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The meet marks the first of three races to held on the Blue Devils home course this season.

The men's 8K race will kick off the meet at 11:00 a.m. and the 5K run on the women's side will proceed at noon. Prior to the collegiate level events, the CCSU Alumni, Track and Field Club and CCSU Athletic Department will hold the Ninth Annual Ray Crothers Memorial 5K Cross Country Race and Kids Mile Fun Run. For complete information and registration details: Ray Crothers 5K/Kids Mile Fun Run.

14 teams will make up the competition field Saturday. Bryant, Essex Community College, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Felician, Hartford, Monroe College, New Hampshire, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Saint Francis U, St. Francis Brooklyn, Sacred Heart, and Wagner will feature runners on both the men's and women's sides.  LIU Brooklyn and Southern Connecticut will compete in the women's 5K only.

The Blue Devil men's cross country team serves as Saturday undeniable meet favorite having won the Ted Owen Invitational for three straight years. In 2016, Central took top honors of a nine team field with six runners finishing in the top-21 out of 106 competitors. Two returning juniors Alex Norstrom and Austin Trainor led CCSU last year with fifth and seventh place finishes, respectively.

For the women, junior Madeline Mondo was the first Blue Devil runner to cross the checkered stripe, turning in a time of 18:46.50 in 27th place.

Stanley Quarter Park will welcome runners back on Friday, Oct. 20 for the CCSU Mini Meet followed by the 2017 Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28.
