The Central Connecticut men's and women's cross country programs earned all four Northeast Conference weekly awards, it was announced by the league's office Wednesday afternoon. On the men's side, senior Roberto Piotto was named Athlete of the Week and Elias Field earned Rookie of the Week. For the women's team, senior Angie Rafter was announced as Athlete of the Week and Brooke Morabito was named Rookie of the Week.
PIOTTO AND FIELD
This is the third week the duo has swept the weekly awards from the NEC. Piotto, who has finished in the top six of every race so far this season, earned his second meet win of the season at the 17th Annual CCSU Mini Meet. The Glastonbury, CT native finished first overall in the men's 5K with a time of 14:51.2. This is the fourth rookie award win for Field who is coming off a 17th place finish (15:18.5) in a field of 95 runners at the 17th Annual CCSU Mini Meet.
RAFTER AND MORABITO
Rafter, the 2018 NEC Most Outstanding Performer, earned her third NEC weekly honor of the season after winning the women's 3K run at the Mini Meet with a personal best time of 9:51.5. She led the Blue Devils to a second place team finish against 15 other schools. Morabito crossed the finish line at the 10:59.8 mark in 58th place out of a field of 105 runners. This is the second time this pair has earned the weekly awards together.
Teammates Megan Brawner and Ashley Dana joined the pair on the prime performers list.
Central Connecticut will host the 2019 Northeast Conference Championships Saturday, Nov. 2 in Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The men's 8K will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the women's 5K at noon.
