The Central Connecticut softball team split a doubleheader vs. Cornell on Saturday, winning game one 1-0 but falling in game two 5-0.  With the split the Blue Devils are now 10-9 overall on the season.

In game one, senior Arielle Bruno smacked an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to plate the Blue Devils' only run of the game.  Central had six hits in the win, including two from Bruno and two from senior Tessa Brown.

With the game scoreless in the sixth, sophomore Hannah Cooper singled to left field and was pinch run for by classmate Brittany Ernst.  Ernst went to second on a sacrifice and scored on a single up the middle by Bruno.

Junior Laura Messina pitched all seven innings for Central, improving her record to 9-5 on the season. Messina tallied four strikeouts and walked one while allowing just four hits in the contest.

Cornell rebounded for a 5-0 win in game two, limiting the Blue Devils to just three hits while doing all of their damage in a five-run fifth inning.  Messina pitched game two for the Blue Devils and is now 9-6 overall on the season.  She allowed four earned runs on six hits while striking out one.

The Blue Devils are off until next Saturday when they open the home and conference portion of their schedule with a doubleheader vs. Sacred Heart on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
