Softball Falls to Saint Francis Monday

The Central Connecticut softball team fell to Saint Francis U 12-1 on Monday morning in New Britain. Junior Sarah Ogilvie recorded a single-RBI allowing classmate Emily Cronin to reach home plate in the bottom of the second inning.

The Blue Devils gave up three runs, including a two run homer by Cheynee McKee, in the first inning, giving the Red Flash an early 3-0 lead. Ogilive's RBI in the second inning put Central on the board 3-1.

After three straight outs from both teams in the third, Saint Francis connected on four hits and scored four runs in the top of the fourth extending the lead 7-1. McKee recorded a single-RBI allowing Brianna Walker to score, and on the next at bat Haylee Norton knocked one out of the park with two runners on base.

Central had just three hits the rest of the game but had an opportunity to score in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, junior Giuliana Hathaway stepped to the plate with the bases load. She tested the pitcher but with a full count grounded out to third.

SFU blew the game open scoring five runs in the top of the seventh. Central had the bases loaded again in the bottom of the inning but CCSU couldn't overcome the late run by the Red Flash.

Softball travels to Worcestor, MA on Friday to play Holy Cross at 5 p.m.
