Softball Held Off by Blackbirds Friday

The Central Connecticut softball team closed the 2019 season falling to LIU Brooklyn in a pair of games Friday afternoon. CCSU finishes the year with a 17-24 overall record and 4-12 stand in conference play. The Blackbird closed the regular season 31-16 overall and 12-2 in the NEC.

LIU took game 5-0 holding the Blue Devils to just two hits at the plate. Freshman Alexa Milius and junior Emily Cronin recorded the two hits for Central and rookie Carolyn Biel posted six putouts. 

In game two, Central battled after falling down 3-0 heading into the second inning. After being held scoreless for four innings, CCSU score four runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.

With the bases loaded, sophomore Sydney Bolan hit a single-RBI to centerfield sending freshman Rian Eigenmann across home plate. On the next at bat, Kristen Ulmer grounded out to the short stop advancing all three runners allowing rookie Carli Backlund to score the second run for the Blue Devils.

When Cronin came up to bat, she had runners on second and third. A single to third base game Milius enough time to hit home and freshman Alyssa Contreras to advance to third. Junior Giuliana Hathaway came up next and singled up the middle for the Central to score its final run of the afternoon.

LIU responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning to push ahead 6-4. Central went three up, three down for the final two innings.

Freshman Kari Marks pitched the first five innings throwing two strikeouts and sophomore Ashley Antonazzo pitched the final inning allowing two hits and throwing one strikeout.
