Women's Basketball Announces Class of 2015

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team has announced the addition of four student-athletes for the 2011-12 school year. All four players will be enrolling at CCSU and each will have the opportunity to make an early impact on a young Blue Devil squad that lost a record setting senior class in 2011.

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team volunteered their time on Saturday May 7, to help with the 2011 CT Race in the Park. The event sponsored by the CT Breast Health Initiative Inc. raised money for breast cancer research and was held in New Britain's Walnut Hill Park.

Central Connecticut Wins the NCAA/NEC 'Pack the House' Challenge

Central Connecticut State University was one of 33 winners in the NCAA Division I 'Pack the House' Challenge. 'Pack the House' is a national effort in which conferences and institutions compete to build attendance. NCAA Division I women's basketball marketing staffs selected a home game and designated that date as a 'Pack the House' game with the goal of setting an attendance record. One winner from each of the 32 conferences and one from a group of independent institutions were named. Selections were based on marketing plan creativity and attendance criteria. The NCAA will award prizes and donate $500 to the nonprofit organization of each winning institution's choice.

Senior Justina Udenze Named to the NEC All-Tournament Team

Central Connecticut senior Justina Udenze was named to the Northeast Conference All-Tournament Team on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devil center had 31 points and 19 rebounds in the NEC Tournament. The two games wrapped up a late season run for Udenze in which she averaged 19.25 points over an eight game stretch.

Women's Basketball Season Ends in NEC Semifinals

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to St. Francis 68-62 in the Northeast Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Blue Devils were lead by their seniors, as Justina Udenze scored 16 points, Leanne Crockett 14, and Kerrianne Dugan 11. The game went back-and-forth and featured 11 lead changes, but the Red Flash came out on top. The Blue Devils finish the season at 19-11, that mark is best record since the 1989-90 season.

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team takes to the road on Tuesday night, playing at top-seed St. Francis (PA) beginning at 7 p.m. The game will be webcast live by the Northeast Conference and the Pack Network at no charge. Fans can follow all of the action live as the #6 seed Blue Devils look for their second straight upset in this season's tournament. The Blue Devils are making their third straight appearance in the semifinals, and are looking for their first-ever trip to the NEC Final.

The Blue Devils improve to 19-10 on the season, they advance to the NEC Semifinals for the third consecutive season.

The Blue Devils and Terriers went back and forth the entire game, but with 2:25 left senior Leanne Crockett knocked down a three pointer that proved to be the difference. Senior Justine Udenze scored a game-high 23 points and Crockett recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The Blue Devils 57-54 victory improves them to 18-10 on the season.

The win improved the Blue Devils to 15-9 on the season and 8-6 in Northeast Conference action. The Blue Devils also improved to 9-1 at home this season. Senior center Justina Udenze continued to dominate the Bulldogs scoring 17 points. Junior Alexzandria Dowdy made nine steals tying a CCSU game record.

Central Connecticut senior Leanne Crockett became the Blue Devils all-time leader in three pointers on Saturday as the Blue Devils fell to Robert Morris, 54-51. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 13-8 on the season and 5-5 in Northeast Conference action. Crockett finished the game with 10 points, including a pair of threes which gave her 144 for her career, one more than Vicki Guarneri who has held the record since 1999.
