The Central Connecticut women's basketball team will travel to Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. game against the Knights. The Blue Devils (11-8, 5-3 NEC) are looking for their third consecutive victory against the Knights (8-11, 3-5 NEC). Fans that can not make it to the game can watch live on NECFrontRow.com.
Here are some notes on the Blue Devils heading into Saturday's action:
Series History • The Blue Devils hold a 17-14 advantage in the all-time Division I series between these programs. Last season, the Blue Devils won the only meeting, a 51-49 victory at Detrick Gym. During the 2010-11 season, CCSU defeated the Knights at Detrick Gym by a score of 57-29, but fell to FDU 51-46 at Stratis Arena. CCSU's 57-29 victory during the 2010-11 season, shares the Blue Devil program's record for fewest points allowed in a game with last Saturday's victory over St. Francis Brooklyn.
Last Time Out • Despite a second half surge the Blue Devils fell to first place Quinnipiac by a score of 82-73 on Monday night. The loss snapped the Blue Devils five-game winning streak. Senior Jaclyn Babe went for 30 points in the loss and junior Jessica Babe posted her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. CCSU trailed at the half, but a hot-start to the second half put the Blue Devils ahead, 47-42, five minutes into the period. Jaclyn Babe was critical to the run as she scored 11 of Central's first 19 points in the half. Quinnipiac used four second half three-pointers to overcome CCSU's run.
Tracking 1,000 • Senior Jaclyn Babe entered Monday's meeting with Quinnipiac 66 points shy of 1,000 for her career. Her 30 point performance against the Bobcats nearly cut that margin in half as she now sits at 964 career points. However, Babe's current scoring average of 17.2 pts/game still puts her on pace to score her 1,000th point on Feb. 9, at home against Quinnipiac, although, another big scoring outburst could have her there before the end of the road trip.
Double-Doubles • Junior Jessica Babe's 11-point, 12-rebound performance on Monday night brings CCSU's total for double-doubles this season to four. Senior Kirsten Daamen posted the team's first two double-doubles of the season with 12 points, 10 rebounds against Bryant and 21 points, 11 rebounds against Wagner. Junior Lauren Arbogast added her first career double-double with 13 pts, 10 rbs against Mount St. Mary's. Babe and Daamen both enter today's game with four career double-doubles, which ties them for the team lead.
High Scoring • Senior Jaclyn Babe has scored in all 47 games, in which she has appeared for the Blue Devils. In that time she has 41 double-digit scoring games, 12 games of 20+ points and two games of 30 or more points. This season Babe has 16 double-digit scoring games and five games of 20+ points, including a 34-point game against UMass and a 30-point night against Quinnipiac.
Combined Points • The Quinnipiac game had the highest combined score of any CCSU game this season with 155 total points. The Texas game is second with 152 total points and the Mount St. Mary's game third with 150. The second half of the Quinnipiac game was also the highest scoring half the Blue Devils have played this season with 94 total points scored, the second is the 93 point second half that CCSU and UMass put together.
Steals • The Blue Devils have been exceptional this season in taking the ball away from their opponent. Senior Jaclyn Babe leads the group and on Monday night she posted four steals to surpass her total of 55 from last season. With at least 10 games left this season Babe has already accumulated 59 steals.
Vs. FDU • Last season, the Blue Devils defeated the Knights on a dramatic buzzer beater from Lauren Arbogast. The shot came off a pass from Kaley Watras and broke a 49-49 tie.
