Senior guard Jaclyn Babe was named to Northeast Conference co-Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Babe and the Blue Devils swept a weekend series with Robert Morris and St. Francis U on Saturday and Monday, and will be the #5 seed in this week's NEC Tournament.
Babe's sensational shooting and premium play helped Central Connecticut lock up the No. 5 seed in the upcoming NEC Tournament. Spearheading Central's winning effort against Robert Morris and Saint Francis U, the dynamic 5-foot-8 guard averaged 23.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per outing. She made 17 of 27 (.630) field goal attempts and shot 80 percent from the free throw line over the final weekend of the NEC regular season schedule.
With CCSU needing a win to clinch a return to the postseason following last year's absence, Babe provided 18 points, on 56 percent shooting, and eight assists to steer the Blue Devils past Robert Morris on Saturday.
The Pennsylvania product's shooting was even sharper in Monday night's regular season finale against Saint Francis. Babe made 8 of 11 shots from the field and connected on 12 of 14 attempts from the charity stripe in the 76-71 triumph over the Red Flash. The 29 points she scored stand as her third-highest single-game total of the season.
Central will travel to play St. Francis on Sunday in the quarterfinal round of the NEC Tournament.
