Central Connecticut women's basketball freshman Lauren Wolosik was named Choice Hotels/Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. Wolosik scored a career-high 15 points in CCSU's 65-58 victory over Rhode Island on Wednesday night.
Wolosik took advantage of her 20 minutes of court time to spark the Blue Devils (1-2). Coming off the bench, she recorded 15 points and sank a tie-breaking three-pointer late in regulation. Wolosik, who also logged two rebounds and one steal in the Blue Devils' first win of the season, finished 4-for-4 shooting from the field and drained 6 of 8 attempts from the charity stripe.
Her lone three-point attempt of the game could not have come at a better time. Rhode Island, which had been trailing since the 19:08 mark of the first half, finally pulled even at 53-53 with 2:55 remaining in regulation. On the ensuing possession, Wolosik put CCSU back in front for good by nailing a three-ball with 2:32 left.
The Blue Devils defeated Rhode Island 65-58.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Wednesday night against New Hampshire. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Detrick Gym. Fans can also watch live on NECFrontRow.com.
