Women's Basketball Adds Six for 2017-18

Central Connecticut women's basketball head coach Beryl Piper has announced that six new faces will join the program for the 2017-18 season. The newcomers include four true freshman, a fifth-year graduate and a third-year junior college transfer.

The Blue Devils are coming off a record of 11-20 overall and 9-9 in the Northeast Conference. In last year's NEC Tournament, the number six seed CCSU knocked off the third-seeded Saint Francis Red Flash in the quarterfinals and then concluded its season in the conference semifinal in a hard fought battle at first seeded Robert Morris who went on to win the 2017 NEC Championship.

Ashley Berube – C, Fr. | Londonberry, NH | Tilton
Coach Piper on Berube: "Ashley is a true center with great court vision and a college ready frame. She will be able to physically compete inside. She has the ability to play with her back to the basket and has worked hard to add to her post move repituour. We look forward to watching her grow as a player the next four years."

Ashley Forker – G, Fr. | Telford, PA | Faith Christian Academy
Coach Piper on Forker: "We are very excited to have such a well-rounded and mature young woman joining our program. She is a combo player that will be able to fit into our system with ease. She sees the floor well and has a knack for finding different ways to score. Ashley has the capabilities to defend from a multitude of positions."

Denisha Gardener – F, Jr. | Norwalk, CT | Kolbe Cathedral/Dean College
Coach Piper on Gardener: "Denisha was very successful as the Division 3 Junior College level and was acknowledged as a Third Team All-American as a freshman at Dean. She has a nose for the ball and has the potential to make a large impact as a rebounder in the NEC. I love that she prides herself in battling inside."

Morgan Johnson – G, Gr. | Knox, PA | Keystone/Rhode Island
Coach Piper on Johnson: "We are really excited to have a graduate transfer that brings with her the experience of playing in the Atlantic-10 for four years. Morgan's ability to shoot the three and stretch the opponent's defense will benefit us this year. Morgan also carries quality leadership skills with her and was captain last season at URI. We look for her to make an immediate impact with those characteristics along with her driven mindset."

Emma McCamus – G, Fr. | Cavan, Ontario | Bill Crothers Secondary
Coach Piper on McCamus: "It is a great pleasure that we have a second Canadian joining our program. Emma is a combo guard with good size and will be able to play at various positions on the offensive and defensive ends. She is a complete player with the ability to shoot the three as well as having a solid mid-range game."

Tiffany Slicklein – G/F, Fr. | Kings Park, NY | Kings Park
Coach Piper on Slicklein: "Every time I watched Tiffany play she filled up the stat page. She is not only a scorer but rebounds with a passion. She is a tenacious defender as well. Tiffany possesses a tremendour work ethic and I can't wait to see her apply it in our program."
