GAME NOTES

THE NEW CREW • In addition to the six returning CCSU women's basketball members (including three returning starters), the Blue Devils welcome six newcomers to the 2017-18 team. The twelve-player roster features two seniors, four juniors, two sophomores and four true freshmen.

CAPTAINS • Prior to the start of practice on Oct. 1, head coach Piper deemed junior Kiana Patterson and senior Brianna Jacobs as the 2017-18 women's basketball team captains. Jacobs saw action in 27 of 31 games as a junior and averaged 2.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 0.6 spg and 0.4 apg. Patterson is CCSU's most dangerous returning offensive threat and was the team's second leading scorer averaging 11.2 per contes. She also sank 38.6 percent of all field including 35.0 percent from beyond the arc.

MOUNTAINEER MATCHUPS • WVU finished with an overall record of 24-11 in 2016-17, going 8-10 in the league before claiming the program's first-ever Big 12 Conference Tournament title last season. The Mountaineers went on to make their 12th NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the NCAA Second Round for the 10th time in program history. WVU lost just one starter and returns its top two leading scorers Tynice Martin (18.6 ppg) and Teana Muldrow (14.5 ppg).

LAST MEETING  The Mountaineers of WVU and CCSU have only met one other time back in the 2010-11 season. Central's second match at UVA will mark the first in program history.

CAVALIER CONTEST • Virginia returns 10 letterwinners from last year's team that finished with 20 wins. The Cavaliers have four starters back, including All-ACC Freshman Team selections Jocelyn Willoughby and Dominique Toussaint. Willoughby led UVA in rebounding (6.2 per game) and will be the top-returning scorer after averaging 9.8 points per contest a year ago. UVA concluded its 2016-17 season in the second round of the WNIT after falling to JMU.

UP NEXT  • Following the two game road circuit, the Central Connecticut women's basketball team will host Brown in its home-opener on Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. inside Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, CT.
