Patterson Earns NEC Top Honor for Week One

Central Connecticut women's basketball junior team captain, Kiana Patterson, was acknowledged by the Northeast Conference on Monday afternoon as the Player of the Week following the 2017-18 college basketball opening weekend. The Blue Devil guard accounted for 33 points in 54 minutes of action against "Power 5" members West Virginia and the University of Virginia. 

Patterson produced a pair of noteworthy performances against two prime opponents. With the Blue Devils opening the season with road games against a Big XII team and an ACC program, the 5-foot-6 guard averaged 16.5 points per outing while shooting 55 percent from the floor.

She also contributed 3.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per contest. Patterson scored a team-high 14 points to go along with a pair of assists in 27 minutes of action at West Virginia on Friday.

Two days later, the Empire State product hit five triples en-route tying for game-high scoring honors. Patterson, who went 6-for-9 from the floor, tallied 19 points and four assists at Virginia. For the week, Patterson made 7 of 13 (.538) attempts from three-point range.

Patterson and the rest of the CCSU women's basketball team will host Brown on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in its home-opener inside Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, CT.
