Lax Drops OT Thriller at the Mount, 8-7

The Central Connecticut lacrosse team fell in overtime at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday by a score of 8-7.  The Blue Devils (5-6, 3-2 NEC) tied the score with just four seconds remaining in the game, but surrendered a single goal to the Mountaineers (5-9, 4-1 NEC) in overtime.

The Blue Devils built a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals by junior Meaghan McCurry.  Junior Betsy Vendel assisted on both of McCurry's scores.

Vendel posted Central's next goal of the game and then McCurry completed her hat-trick with the help of sophomore Claire Healy.  McCurry's goal gave the Blue Devils a 4-2 lead.

Senior Ashley Perkoski scored on a free position shot to increase Central's lead to three goals, but a pair of scores by the Mount brought the halftime score to 5-4.

In the second half, junior Mackenzy Ryan scored for the Blue Devils with the help of McCurry, but the Mount took a 7-6 lead with three goals in the period.

With just four seconds remaining in regulation,  Vendel scored an unassisted goal to send the game into overtime.

Mount's Jen Semler scored the only goal of overtime to earn the victory for the Mountaineers.

Senior goalkeeper Erin DeLancey took the loss in the net.  She made eight saves and allowed eight goals.

McCurry and Vendel shared a game-high with four points each.  McCurry had three goals and an assist, while Vendel had two goals and a pair of assists.

The Blue Devils return to action on Friday at Arute Field against Robert Morris.
