The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team will host Sacred Heart at Arute Field this afternoon for the Blue Devils' first Northeast Conference home game of the 2013 season. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
The Blue Devils (4-5, 2-0 NEC) posted a perfect 5-0 record in NEC home games during the 2012 season and CCSU is 8-3 at home under head coach Kelly Nangle.
The Blue Devils and Pioneers (2-5, 1-0 NEC) met in the regular season finale last year with Sacred Heart pulling out a 10-9 victory and earning a playoff spot. Sacred Heart also topped CCSU 10-9 during the 2011 season.
CCSU is currently riding a three game winning streak and with a victory today the Blue Devils can improve to 3-0 in NEC play for the second straight season.
Here are some notes on the Blue Devils heading into today's action:
• The Blue Devils look to improve to 3-0 in Northeast Conference play for the second consecutive season. The 2012 squad's 3-0 start to the NEC slate is the best in program history.
• Senior Mackenzy Ryan enters today's game with 99 career goals. With her next goal Ryan will become the fifth CCSU player to reach 100 career goals. Tracey Uellendahl is the program's all-time leader with 150, senior Betsy Vendel is second with 105, senior Meaghan McCurry is third with 103 and Michele Conway is fourth with 100. Vendel and McCurry both reached triple-digits earlier this season.
• Senior Betsy Vendel captured CCSU's career points record last Friday, but after a seven-point performance on Tuesday she is quickly closing in on another milestone. Vendel is just three points shy of 200 for her career. Vendel is also 8 assists shy of 100 for her career.
• The Blue Devils have scored 55 second half goals this season, while limiting their opponents to just 42.
