The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to #18/19 Stony Brook on Thursday night at LaValle Stadium in Stony Brook, NY. The Blue Devils fall to 2-3 on the season with the loss, while the Seawolves improve to 5-2 with the victory. The final score was 20-5 in favor of Stony Brook.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday, March 15 at Brown. CCSU will then return home for three straight games at Arute Field, as they host Vermont on March 22, Lafayette on March 25 and Howard on March 29.
CCSU's five goals came from five different players with senior Meaghan McCurry scoring the Blue Devils' first goal at the 16:59 mark of the first half. The goal was McCurry's third of the season and broke a 7-0 opening run by the Seawolves.
Senior Amanda Toke opened up the second half scoring with her ninth goal of the season. Freshman Alexandra Hooker recorded the assist on the score, which came just 19 seconds into the second half and made it a 14-3 game.
Following six goals by Stony Brook, sophomore Falynn McCartney found the back of the net with her ninth goal, which keeps her on pace with Toke for the team lead.
Minutes later freshman Marissa Soto recorded her first career goal and the final score of the game for either team.
Stony Brook held a 42-12 advantage in shots for the game, the Seawolves had 30 of their 42 shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Morgan Tullar recorded 10 saves and also had three ground balls in the contest. She played the entire game and falls to 2-3 on the season with the loss.
Toke (4), McCartney (3) and Soto (2) each recorded multiple draw controls in the game. The Blue Devils finished with 13 draw controls as a team.
The Seawolves had five players register five or more points in the game led by Courtney Murphy with eight on eight goals.
