After an aggressive first-half battle, Central Connecticut falls 2-0 to Vermont following two back-to-back second-half goals in its second road contest of the season Friday night. CCSU is now 0-2 on the season.
The Blue Devils started the game high in energy and ultimately out-shot the Catamounts 17 to seven at the conclusion of the game. Sophomore Danica Foglio led the shooting rampage with three, while five Blue Devils each added two more - including freshman Cailynn Harding who posted two shots on goal.
Senior Ashlee Barrow and junior goalie Nikola Deiter led an effective defensive effort for Central during the first half preventing Vermont's sharp-shooters from penetrating the net. The two teams, having both lost their previous contests, spent the half trading possessions and vying for goals, but left the game scoreless at halftime.
The second half opened with CCSU dominating the Catamounts' end of the field. Freshman Claire Walsh rocketed a shot at the goal that required an impressive save by Vermont's freshman goalie Ally Ramos. The Catamounts responded to the pressure 13 minutes into the second half with senior Megan Rozumalski putting the ball into the net to leave CCSU trailing 0-1. The goal was Rozumalski's third of the season and was followed by another from sophomore Alexandra Dezenzo just over five minutes later.
The Blue Devils were unable to make a comeback after the two quick goals awarding the Catamounts their first win of the season. The Blue Devils take on New Hampshire on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. for their second game of the University of Vermont Fall Classic tournament.
