The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell to UConn by a final score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in Storrs, CT. The Blue Devils' record drops to 0-2 with the loss while the Huskies improve to 2-2 with the win. Senior goalkeeper Nikola Deiter posted 11 saves on the day.
The Huskies got off to a quick start, notching the first goal of the game in just the third minute of play. Connecticut increased their lead with another goal from inside the box to put the Blue Devils behind 2-0. After a third goal deflected off of a CCSU defender, the two teams headed into the locker room with UCONN leading 3-0 at the half.
The second half remained scoreless, despite multiple close calls from Central, including a final horn shot by freshman Morgan Santoro that bounced off the post as the clock expired.
UConn outshot CCSU 32-14. The Huskies landed 14 shots on goal compared to just four for CCSU. Senior Rachel Cerrone and juniors Tori Sousa, Kerriann Welch and Danica Foglio each posted one shot on goal for Central. UConn registered eight corner kicks compared to three for the Blue Devils.
CCSU will return home for their next match-up of the season on Friday, Sept. 6. The Blue Devils will host St. John's (NY) with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
