McQuillan Named NEC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

The Northeast Conference chose Central Connecticut women's soccer sophomore goal keeper Amanda McQuillan as the NEC Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league's office on Monday afternoon.

In her debut for the defending NEC champion and preseason favorite Blue Devils, McQuillan was crucial in taking No. 19 Rutgers into overtime before falling, 2-1. The Johnstown County Meath, Ireland native totaled nine saves against the Scarlet Knights, who were tabbed second in the Big Ten preseason poll. She managed to hold the Scarlet Knights off the board until yielding a penalty kick in the 70th minute.

Sophomore Roma McLaughlin was named a prime performer for the week. The former NEC Rookie of the Year scored against Rutgers on her first shot of the match.

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team hosts Maine tonight in its home opener at 7 p.m. at CCSU Soccer Field.
