The Central Connecticut women's soccer team challenges in-state opponent Connecticut Thursday night at 7 p.m. at CCSU Soccer Field in New Britain, CT. The Blue Devils look to win their second straight game and keep an undefeated record at home.
CCSU is currently 1-1 on the year. Central suffered a tough 2-1 overtime loss to No. 19 Rutgers (Aug. 22) to open the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Amanada McQuillan was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week after posting nine saves against the Scarlet Knights.
The Blue Devils recently defeated Maine 2-1 in their home opener on Monday. Freshman Giavanna Inzerillo headed her first collegiate goal and the game winner against the Black Bears off a corner kick from junior Erica Bardes late in the second half.
Connecticut enters tonight's match at 1-1 on the season. The Huskies suffered a 2-1 loss at Providence and recently beat Fairfield 3-0 in their home opener. Last year, the Blue Devils fell to the Huskies 3-2 in Storrs, CT. Central scored the first two goals of the game and held a one-goal lead at halftime before the Huskies got a pair of second half tallies to win the game.
Admission will be $5 upon entry for tonight's match. Admission for all CCSU students, faculty and staff is free of charge with a valid Blue Chip card.
