  • Swimming and Diving Completes Incoming Class for 2010-11

    Swimming and Diving Completes Incoming Class for 2010-11 Head swimming coach Bill Ball and head diving coach Dave Maliar have announced the addition of five student-athletes to their incoming class in 2010-11, bringing the total number of the class to eight. The Blue Devils have won two Northeast Conference titles and finished second once in the last three years. They won back-to-back championships in 2008 and 2009 before finishing second last season.

    CCSU Swimming to Hold Water Safety Clinic May 9 The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team will be conducting a free water safety clinic on Sunday, May 9 at 1:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by Stew Leonard III Children's Charities and is for children ages two to six. The clinic will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Blue Devils' Jack Suydam Natatorium in Kaiser Hall. All those ready to have fun and learn basic water safety, grab a towel and head to CCSU for the event.

    Blue Devils Finish ECAC Championships in Eighth The Central Connecticut State University swimming and diving team finished competition at the ECAC Championships today. The Blue Devils placed eighth out of 24 scoring teams, recording 227 total points. The 400 freestyle relay team of Alex Czaplicki, Kandra Kane, Taylor Friedmann and Katie Lang recorded the top finish of the day, placing fifth in a time of 3:31.13.

    Swimming Competes In Day Two Action at ECAC Championships Both relay teams placed in the top five as Central Connecticut State University competed in the second day of competition at the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday. The 800 freestyle relay team of senior Kandra Kane, sophomore Alex Czaplicki and freshmen Taylor Friedmann and Katie Lang led the way with a silver medalist performance, recording a time of 7:36.09.

    Friedmann Wins 500 Free, Blue Devils in Fifth at ECACs Freshman Taylor Friedmann won the 500 freestyle as Central Connecticut State University competed in the first day of competition at the ECAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday. Friedmann recorded a time of 4:56.81 to earn gold medalist honors in the event. The Blue Devils are in fifth place out of 18 scoring teams after one day of action in Pittsburgh, PA.

    Nine Swimmers and Divers Earn All-NEC Honors Taylor Friedmann was named Co-Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet and Co-Outstanding Rookie of the Meet at the Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships two weeks ago. The freshman headlines a group of nine Central Connecticut swimmers and divers to be named to the All-NEC Teams, as released by the conference today.

    Central Falls Just Short of Third Straight NEC Championship The Central Connecticut State University swimming and diving team started the final day of the Northeast Conference Championships down 28.5 points. After the first three events of day three CCSU found itself up by 41.5 points, but St. Francis (PA) won the final three events and went on to win the meet by 48 points. The Blue Devils, who had won the last two NEC Championships were the Runners-up with 508.5 points.

    Blue Devils Remain In Second After Two Days at NEC Championships Sophomore Alex Czaplicki and freshman Taylor Friedmann each won one event on Friday, but Central Connecticut State University remains in second place after two days of competition at the Northeast Conference swimming and diving championships. Czaplicki won the first individual event of the night, touching in at 4:32.21 in the 400 IM. Friedmann broke another CCSU freshman record on Friday, winning the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:50.75.

Freshman Taylor Friedmann highlighted the day, taking first place in the 500 freestyle with a record breaking time of 4:52.56. She topped the best ever time by a Central Connecticut freshman and broke the NEC record while winning the event.

    Central Swimming Tops Wagner, 153-108 On the Road Sophomore Alex Czaplicki and freshman Taylor Friedmann won three events each as Central Connecticut State University defeated Wagner on the road by a score of 153-108. The Blue Devils won 10 out of 14 events to stay undefeated in Northeast Conference action at 2-0.

    Swimming and Diving Finishes Competition at College Conference Carnival Sophomore Kristen Malski put forth the fourth best time in the 100 breastroke, touching in at 1:06.63 as the Central Connecticut State University swimming and diving team finished competition at the Swimming World College Conference Carnival at Rutgers on Saturday. The Blue Devils placed sixth in the two day meet in which the University of Minnesota edged out the host Scarlet Knights for the championship.

    Vestergaard Earns Fifth NEC Diver of the Week Honor Sophomore Madison Vestergaard earned her second straight Northeast Conference Diver of the Week honor and her fifth of the season for her performance against Miami on Saturday. She led CCSU this weekend with two first place finishes. The Middletown, CT native won the one-meter dive with 252.60 points. Her score was only 1.3 points off the Central school record in the event. She also took home gold medalist honors in the three-meter dive with a score of 236.93. Vestergaard has the top scores in the NEC this season and has qualified for the ECAC Championships with her performance.

    Blue Devils Fall 163-60 at Miami Sophomore Madison Vestergaard won both diving events, but Central Connecticut State University dropped a 163-60 road decision at Miami Saturday. Vestergaard scored 252.60 points in the one-meter dive and totaled 236.93 points to win the three-meter board. The Blue Devils will next travel to Rutgers to compete in the College Conference Carnival on January 22 and 23 in Piscataway, NJ.

    Friedmann and Vestergaard Receive Northeast Conference Honors Freshman Taylor Friedmann and sophomore Madison Vestergaard earned Northeast Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week accolades, respectively, for their performance at CCSU's home dual meet against Vermont on Sunday. It marks the first time that Friedmann has received the honor in her young career, but this is the fourth time that Vestergaard has been named Diver of the Week during the 2009-10 season.

    Friedmann Breaks Pool Record as CCSU Falls to Vermont 161-139 Freshman Taylor Friedmann broke the Jack Suydam Natatorium record in the 1,000 freestyle, but Central Connecticut State University dropped a 161-139 decision at home to the University of Vermont on Sunday afternoon. Her time of 10:13.41 was a pool and freshman best in the CCSU record books and is the best time in the Northeast Conference so far this season.

    Vestergaard Receives NEC Diver of the Week Honor Sophomore Madison Vestergaard earned her third Northeast Conference Diver of the Week honor for her performances at the Harvard Invitational this weekend. She competed in both the one-meter and three-meter events at the meet. Vestergaard recorded scores of 176.10 and 184.10 points in the two events, respectively. CCSU will take the next month off from competitive swimming and will return to the pool on January 10 of 2010.

    CCSU Finishes Final Day at Terrier Invite, Harvard Diving Invite Sophomore Alex Czaplicki placed third in the 200 backstroke as the Central Connecticut State Unviversity swim team placed seventh out of nine teams at the Terrier Invitational this weekend. Czaplicki recorded a time of 2:04.55 to lead Central in the final day of the meet at Boston University. Senior Kristen Rossi and sophomore Madison Vestergaard also finished diving at the Harvard Invitational on Sunday.

Kane took first in the 500 freestyle, touching in at 5:09.58. Malski earned gold medalist honors in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:09.73, while Friedmann won the 1,000 free, recording a time of 10:24.58.

She led the Central Connecticut State University diving unit with a second and a fourth place finish against Southern Connecticut and Sacred Heart. Rossi, the 2007 Northeast Conference Diver of the Year, recorded scores of 201.15 and 173.80 in the one-meter and three-meter events, respectively.

    Swimming and Diving Drop Pair of Dual Meets at Northeastern Sophomore Alex Czaplicki won the 100 and 200 backstroke, as well as the 200 IM, but the Central Connecticut State University swimming and diving team dropped a pair of dual meets to open the season on Saturday. The Blue Devils fell to Northeastern by a score of 175-108 and lost the meet with Maine, 161-132 in Boston this afternoon. Czaplicki won the 100 back in 1:00.70, and took the 200 back in 2:09.80. The sophomore won her final event, the 200 IM, by over ten seconds, touching in at 2:10.31.

    Blue Devils Picked To Three-Peat In Northeast Conference Poll The Central Connecticut State University swimming and diving team was unanimously selected to win the Northeast Conference for a third straight year in the 2009 version of the conference coaches' poll, released on Thursday. The Blue Devils will begin their quest for three straight league titles on Saturday October 17 when they compete at Northeastern with the host Huskies and Maine.
