Swim & Dive Falls to LIU Post

The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team fell in its first meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 12, to LIU Post by a score of 165-94. The Blue Devils claimed nine top-two finishes on the day, including two winning performances.

Senior Kathryn Kiely and freshman Christine Rasile led the Blue Devils with the only two CCSU victories. Kiely claimed the top spot in the 1000 yard freestyle with her time of 10:53.23 while Rasile touched the wall first in the 200 free with her time of 1:57.18. Coming in just behind Kiely in the 1000 free was classmate Kasey Chilton who notched a time of 10:53.37.

Rasile also claimed a pair of individual second-place finishes in the 100 free (54.27) and the 50 free (25.04) while also swimming the anchor leg of the 400 free relay, clinching a second-place team finish.

Joining Rasile on the relay squad were seniors Erin Massey and Kellen Power as well as freshman Stephanie Czulewicz.

Massey also finished just behind Rasile in the 200 free with her time of 1:59.26 and turned in a consistent performance on the day claiming third in the 100 free (55.05) and fourth in the in the 50 free (25.84). 

Also earning a second-place finish for the Blue Devils was junior Karen Novak, who touched the wall in 5:22.09, before sophomore Selene Chilton who followed in 5:26.22, good for third. Chilton also placed second in the 200 yard butterfly registering a time of 2:15.51.

From the diving board, reigning NEC Champion Jessica Goldman topped the squad, earning a score of 240.35 from 1-meter and 242.10 from 3-meters. Sophomore Kaitlyn Beaver came in second in the 1-meter, with a score of 197.50 and junior Kaitlyn Dwyer finished second in the 3-meter with her score of 217.10.

The Blue Devils will travel to Rutgers on Saturday, Oct. 19. The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
