The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team completed day one of the Sonny Werblin Invitational hosted by Rutgers University on Friday. The highest placing swimmer for the Blue Devils was freshman Christine Rasile, who touched the wall eighth in the 50 yard freestyle with her time of 25.15. NEC Diver of the Week Jessica Goldman notched a third-place performance from the 3-meter board as she tallied 247.25 points.
The 50 free proved to be a strong event for Central as three Blue Devils finished in the top 20 in the field of 55 competitors. Senior Erin Massey touched the wall less than a second behind Rasile, posting a time of 25.87, good for 14th. Senior Kellen Power placed 18th with her time of 26.05.
CCSU posted three in the top 20 in the 200 IM as well. Out of 57 competitors, Central freshman Lisa Ward clocked a time of 2:17.08, good for 14th, followed by classmate Sabree Thomas in 17th, who touched in 2:17.96. Senior Kristina Gulia finished just behind the pair in 18th with her time of 2:18.46.
Goldman was followed in the 3-meter competition by junior Kaitlyn Dwyer who placed eighth with a score of 214.60.
The Blue Devils will resume competiton tomorrow, beginning at 9 a.m. with the 200 medley relay. The diving competition is set to continue with the 1-meter competition tomorrow at 10 a.m. Fans can follow the action via live stats.
