The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team competed against Vermont and Merrimack on Saturday in New Britain, CT. The Blue Devils fell to Vermont by a score of 215-84 but topped Merrimack 48-9. Senior Kristina Gulia earned two wins for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils posted two victories, both from Gulia, as well as 10 additional top-three performances. Gulia raced to victory in the 100 yard breaststroke in which she swam a 1:08.78 for a new season-best time. Gulia also claimed the win in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:28.60, also a season best.
Sophomore Selene Chilton had a solid day, earning two second-place finishes while also helping the 400 freestyle relay squad to another. Chilton swam a 10:53.64 in her first appearance in the 1000 yard freestyle this season. She followed that performance with another silver in the 200 butterfly in which she raced a season-best 2:14.37.
Novak also placed third in the 1000 freestyle with her time of 10:58.33.
Sabree Thomas earned a second-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with her time of 1:00.40. The freshman also placed third in the 200 yard butterfly clocking a 2:15.09.
Senior Kathryn Kiely claimed second in the 500 yard freestyle in a season-best 5:17.37. She also grabbed fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:58.72).
The final top-three swimming performance belongs to sophomore Alaina Papiro who claimed third in the 100 breaststroke with a season-best time of 1:10.09.
From the diving board, sophomore Kaitlyn Beaver led the Blue Devils with a second-place 1-meter finish. She tallied 214.80 points. She was followed by junior Kaitlyn Dwyer in fifth (196.30) and freshman Rayanne Muzzo in sixth (163.85).
Beaver also led CCSU from the 3-meter board, registering 206.70 points, good for fourth. Dwyer and Muzzo rounded out the six-diver field with scores of 205.15 and 177.40, respectively.
The Blue Devils will return to action at the Bucknell University Invitational next weekend. The meet is scheduled to begin Friday, Nov. 22, and continue through Sunday, Nov. 24.
