Swimming Sets School Record on Day One at NECs
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team opened the 2014 NEC Championships Wednesday evening with back-to-back relay events in Cambridge, MA. The Blue Devils close out day one in fourth place, registering 62 team points, and set a new school record in the 200 medley relay.
After day one, preseason favorite Wagner tops the field with 70 points, followed by Saint Francis U (70) and Bryant (66).
Central raced the 200 yard medley relay to kick off Wednesday's competition and set a new school record in the process. The squad, consisting of seniors Kristina Gulia and Erin Massey along with freshmen Stephanie Czulewicz and Sabree Thomas, touched the wall in 1:45.43 for fourth place overall. The time topped the previous school record of 1:45.58 set in 2006.
In the 800 yard freestyle relay, the Blue Devils earned third place with a time of 7:31.33. Seniors Kellen Power and Kathryn Kiely, as well as freshmen Lisa Ward and Christine Rasile, made up the team.
