Spadafina is in his fourth year with the women's swimming and diving program at Central. In his three years at CCSU, the Blue Devils have achieved CSCAA Academic All-American for the past six semesters and had numerous Northeast Conference Honor Roll members. During his tenure with the Blue Devils, CCSU has accounted for 10 Northeast Conference Champions, 44 All-NEC team members, US National qualifiers and participants, a US Open Qualifier, a NCAA B qualifier and an Estonian national record holder. Central swimmers have set six school records in the past three years as well as numerous pool records at the Jack Suydam Natatorium and throughout the NEC.
Spadafina began his coaching career in 2002 and has worked for some of the top swim clubs in Connecticut. He has coached numerous Connecticut swimming record holders, YMCA All-Americans, YMCA Champions, National Age Group top-10 finishers, and Junior and Senior National qualifiers. In 2009 while at the New Canaan YMCA, the New Canaan YMCA team placed in the top 10 at the YMCA National Championships. Spadafina is also a member of the SoNoCo Swim club staff where in 2013, both the men and women's teams placed first at the Connecticut Senior Championships. Spadafina has represented Connecticut swimming as an Eastern Zone Coach and as a member of the board of directors as Coach Representative from 2010-2012.
Spadafina graduated from CCSU in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in history. He was a member of the Central men's swimming and diving team and was named the team captain in 2001-02. A native of Staten Island, NY, John resides in Wallingford, CT with his wife Amber (CCSU class of 2004) and daughter Chloe (2).
