Saunders Claims High Jump at UMASS

The Central Connecticut women's track & field team finished ninth at the UMASS Invitational with a team score of 27.50.  The Blue Devils finished ahead of 10th place Smith College (26) and short of eighth place Hartford (34.50).  Albany was the meet champion registering a 148.07 team score.  This weekend's meet was hosted by UMASS in Amherst, MA.  

Freshman Ronea Saunders won the high jump for the second meet in a row.  She posted a jump of 1.75m, good for gold in the event.  Also in the field, sophomore Jess Davis tied for eighth place in the pole vault (2.75m).

Central's 4x100m relay team was the event's runner up posting a time of 48.31.  The team was junior Rachel Dombroski, senior Amy Sanjurjo, freshman Shanakaye Staple, and Saunders.

In the 400m, sophomore Meghan Burns placed fifth in her section crossing the line at 59.85.  Sophomore Shavonne Dash ran a personal best 59.92 in her section and senior Kate McGuire finished seventh in the same section (1:02.52).

Senior Katrina Ainsworth (1:10.39), senior Aneta Pytel (1:14.63), and freshman Jenean McCalla (1:16.20) placed first, fourth, and sixth respectively in the third section of the 400m hurdles.  Dombroski placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 26.00, Sanjurjo placed sixth (26.15).

Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic

The Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic, which was held at Christy-Matthewson Memorial Stadium, featured two runners from the Central Connecticut women's track & field team.  Sophomores Elizabeth Eberhardt and Krisztina Dearborn both represented the Blue Devils on Saturday in Lewisburg, PA.

Eberhardt ran the 3,000m steeplechase in a personal best time of 11:31.00 which placed her seventh in her section.  The last time Eberhardt competed in the steeplechase was at last year's 2011 Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships where she ran the event in 11:41.63.

Dearborn ran an ECAC qualifying time of 35:58.82 in the 10,000m, good for ninth place.  Dearborn's time broke the 10,000m CCSU school record of 36:09.23 which was set by Heather Gardiner in 2000.
