Saunders Wins High Jump at NEC Meet

The Central Connecticut women's track & field team placed seventh at the 2012 Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships posting 47 team points.  Mount St. Mary's hosted the conference championship meet in Emmitsburg, MD.

Monmouth claimed their fourth straight team title in the outdoor meet marking down 159.25 team points.  LIU Brooklyn (146) finished second, Sacred Heart (139.25) third, while St. Francis (PA) (94) and Robert Morris (76.25) rounded out the top-five.

Central edged eighth place Wagner (43) by four team points and also finished ahead of ninth place Quinnipiac (28.25) and 10th place Fairleigh Dickinson (16).  St. Francis (NY) (9) and Bryant (6) rounded out the 12 team field.

The Blue Devils were led by freshman Ronea Saunders who sealed the NEC Individual Championship in the high jump with a 1.75m (5'8.75") jump.  The height eclipsed an NEC meet record and also marked a new CCSU school outdoor record in the event, previously 5'8".  The first-year Blue Devil was named the NEC Most Outstanding Rookie Performer after her impressive performance.

Senior Alasia Griebel ran the 1,500m in a time of 4:34.96 which placed her second in the event.  Senior Amanda Asaro competed in the finals of the 800m.  Her 2:14.88 personal best time placed her third in the event.

Sophomore Krisztina Dearborn ran to a fourth place finish in the 10,000m crossing the line at 38:06.86.  Dearborn also placed seventh in the 5,000m in a time of 17:57.26.

Running a personal best time in the 3,000m steeplechase was sophomore Elizabeth Eberhardt who ran the event in 11:12.05, good for fifth place.

Sophomore Jess Davis placed fifth in the pole vault with a 2.75m (9'00.25") mark.  Sophomore Meghan Burns placed eighth in the 400m running in a time of 59.16.

In the relay events Central placed fifth in the 4x100m (48.68), seventh in the 4x400m (3:58.28), and eighth in the 4x800m (9:39.28).
