Freshman Ronea Saunders continued her successful outdoor season with a second place finish at the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals on Saturday evening.
The 2012 Northeast Conference Most Outstanding Rookie, placed second in the high jump at the national meet by clearing 5 feet, 8.75 inches (1.75 meters). That is the same height that Saunders cleared to win the high jump at the NEC Outdoor Championships in May. It also ties her CCSU and NEC record.
Saunders cleared the bar on her first attempt at both 1.70 and 1.75 meters. She failed to clear 1.80 meters in her three attempts.
Taylor Bruke of the University of Florida won the event by clearing 5 feet, 10.75 inches (1.83 meters).
