Wolliston Breaks School Record; WTF Concludes Joe Donahue Games

Junior Melissa Wolliston broke the CCSU school record in the 60 meter hurdles as the Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team competed in the Joe Donahue Games on Friday at the historic Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury, MA.

Wolliston continues to excel in the 60 meter hurdles for the Blue Devils and Friday was no different as she etched herself into the CCSU school record book. The junior set the new school standard in the event after she sprinted to a time of 8.79 to record a third place finish in the finals heat.

Her time breaks the previous CCSU record of 8.86 that was set by Shelby Tuttle back in 2014. The time also qualifies her to compete at the ECAC Championships later this season on March 5-6 and bumps her up on the NEICAAA Championships performance list from 13th to tied for eighth, which she qualified to compete in last weekend at the 2016 Great Dane Classic.

Classmate Sarah Hicks also recorded a nice finish in the 60 meter hurdles for the Blue Devils. She turned in a ninth place overall finish and crossed the finish line with a time of 9.08.

In the 500 meter run, junior Taylor Boncal finished just outside the top-10 and logged an 11th place finish clocking in a time of 1:19.57. She was joined by freshman Samantha Hartmayer in the event who finished 16th with a time of 1:21.04.

Junior Brittany Mendelson crossed the finish line at the 2:21.81 mark in her first time contesting in the 800 meter run this season. Her time earned her a 14th place result.

Jazmin Booker clocked in a personal best time 3:06.82 in the 1,000 meter run for Central. The time earned the junior a 16th place finish in her first time competing in the event this season.

In the field events, freshman McKenna Killian leapt to a collegiate best mark of 5.11 meters in the long jump to earn a 21st place finish. Classmate Sierra Nesmith also logged a collegiate best in the long jump with a mark of 5.06 meters to report a 24th place finish.

Senior Chelse Terry registered a 20th place finish in the weight throw and a 21st place finish in the shot put for the Blue Devils on Friday. She tossed the weight throw 14.39 meters and the shot put 10.82 meters to earn he respective results.

The CCSU women's indoor track and field team will be back in action next Saturday, January 30 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic. The meet will be held at the BU Track and Tennis Center in Boston, MA, home of also the New England Championships and IC4A Championships that the Blue Devils will compete in at the end of February and early March.
