NEC Announces Women's Track & Field Preseason Poll

The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team was picked to finish tied for fifth at this year's NEC Track and Field Championships according to the 2016 Northeast Conference Coaches' Poll released by the NEC front office via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Devils have posted back-to-back tied for seventh place finishes at the previous two NEC Outdoor Championships, but are coming off a third place finish at the 2016 NEC Indoor Championships this past Winter. They will look to carry over the momentum as they host the 2016 NEC Outdoor Championships at the CCSU Track & Field Complex in New Britian, CT on May 7-8.

The Sacred Heart Pioneers, who are the defending NEC Outdoor Champions, were unanimously picked to repeat as they received nine first place votes to slot them on top of the preseason prediction list. They were followed by the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds who were picked to finish second with the final first place vote as the Pioneers could not vote for themselves.

Mount St. Mary's was pegged third followed by Saint Francis U. The Blue Devils were next in a fifth place tie with Robert Morris. Fairleigh Dickinson was picked seventh ahead of Wagner, Bryant and St. Francis Brooklyn to round out the ten team poll.

Under the guidance of fifth-year head coach Erick Blake, the Blue Devils will look to improve on the final standings list at the 2016 Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships in New Britain on May 7-8.

The full CCSU women's outdoor track and field team will open up its outdoor season on Saturday, April 2 as they host the CCSU Track & Field Invite. A full list of event times and heat sheets will be posted as soon as they become available for the meet.
