The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team took home three medals after day one of the 2019 Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday, May 4. The team currently sits in fourth place with 39 points as Saint Francis U leads with 60 points. Senior Sierra Nesmith broke the school record with the leading 400 meter time of 55.73 to advance to the finals. She will also compete in the 400 meter hurdles finals after a first place finish in her heat with a time of 1:01.41.
Senior Dawn Hubbell took home the silver in the 10,000 meter run clocking in with a time of 38:48.15 in the first event of the day. The women's 4x800 meter relay team (Rafter, Dana, Hubbell, and Brawner) came away with the bronze after running an impressive time of 9:12.20. In the women's javelin, junior Gianna D'Amato earned the bronze medal with a throw of 39.90 meters.
Senior Abrah Toomey also competed in the event placing 10th after a 33.92 meter toss. Toomey finished 12th in the hammer throw recording 41.72 meters. Sophomore Kaitlyn Stevens also ran in the 10,000 meter earning a seventh place finish at 41:35.23.
Senior McKenna Kilian represented Central in the women's long jump earning a sixth place finish after leaping 5.34 meters.
Two Blue Devils, juniors Kadizha Benjamin and Hailey Rospierski finished fifth and seventh respectively in the women's high jump finals. Benjamin posted a height of 1.64 meters and Rospierski 1.61 meters.
Rospierski advanced to the 100 meter hurdles finals, which will take place tomorrow, after a third place finish in her heat with a time of 14.65 seconds.
