Volleyball Sweeps Sacred Heart, 3-0
The Central Connecticut volleyball team improved to 7-2 in Northeast Conference play with a three set victory over Sacred Heart on Thursday night. The Blue Devils (12-10, 7-2 NEC) were led by eight kills from senior Jamie Rademacher.
The Blue Devils won their sets 25-23, 25-16 and 25-10. Central had just 24 kills in the three sets, but with only four attack errors, the Blue Devils hit .278 for the match.
CCSU also dominated on the defensive net with 9.0 blocks.
The Pioneers (6-17, 4-5 NEC) committed 24 attack errors and 13 service errors, which helped the Blue Devils maintain control throughout the match.
Rademacher connected for eight kills and a .571 hitting percentage. She did not have an attack error in the match. Senior Emily Cochran contributed seven kills to the offense and freshman Makenna Lommori posted four kills and 14 assists.
On defense, Rademacher and Lommori led a solid team defense that recorded nine blocks and 37 digs. Rademacher and Lommori each assisted on seven blocks. Sophomore Rachel Dunlap and senior Jennifer Waddill also played well at the net, each had a pair of blocks in the match.
Seven Blue Devils recorded multiple digs led by freshman Ashley Lenington with nine. Senior Allyson Porter (8), Cochran (7), sophomore Brittany Schumacher (5), senior Blaike King (3), junior Veronika Ban (3) and Rademacher (2) all contributed multiple digs.
The Blue Devils also had eight service aces in the match with Ban, Cochran and Lenington each recording a pair.
With the win, the Blue Devils also swept the season series from their intrastate rivals.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday when they host St. Francis (NY). That match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be streamed live on NECFrontRow.com.
