CCSU Hall of Famer Mark St. Germain Passes Away
Was inducted into the CCSU Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018
Former Central Connecticut Hall of Fame student-athlete Mark St. Germain has passed away. St. Germain was a football standout for the Blue Devils and was inducted into the CCSU Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.
St. Germain was one of the most decorated running backs after his career with the Blue Devil football team. After completing his eligibility, he set a then-school record with 104 career points. During his senior year, St. Germain tied the records for single-season scoring and touchdowns. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American selection in 1974. St. Germain finished his career ranked second in career rushing yardage with 1,620 yards. He is currently ranked 16th in both career rushing and 19th scoring.
Mark E St. Germain, 71 of Westfield, MA, passed away peacefully on July 6th, 2024, surrounded by loved ones after a fearless battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Mark was born in Holyoke on October 29, 1952 to the late Mary (Griess) and Leo St. Germain.
A Holyoke Catholic Graduate in 1970, Mark continued studying at Berwick Academy, Maine, followed by Central Connecticut State University (CCSU). Known as an exceptional athlete, Mark was inducted in both the Holyoke Catholic and CCSU Football Hall of Fames. He was one of the most decorated running backs during his career with the CCSU Blue Devil football team, and was an Honorable Mention All-American selection in 1974.
Having a long career in the freight industry, Mark spent the last 10 years at R.M. Sullivan Transportation as an account manager, retiring in 2011. Outside of work, Mark loved spending time with family and his many friends, golfing, fishing, and rooting on his New York Football Giants.
He leaves behind his wife, Dorothy (Brown) St. Germain of 45 years, a son, Mark St. Germain and wife Crystal of Westfield, a son, Andrew St. Germain of Bloomfield New Jersey, and daughter, Sarah (St. Germain) Ferreira and husband Jason of Holyoke, and his 4 grandchildren Jaelyn, Landan, Madelyn and Violet. His sister Ann (St. Germain) Jubinville of South Hadley and her husband Gerald who is predeceased. He was predeceased by his brother David St. Germain of Holyoke,and his father- in- law Thomas Brown. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Dorothy Brown of South Hadley, sisters-in-law, Patricia McKissick of South Hadley and her husband John McKissick who is predeceased, Marian Kirley (Fran) of Sykesville MD, Joan Bowen (Jamie) of Granby, Christine Brown of Chicopee, Lucinda Brown and her husband Daniel Brown of South Hadley who is predeceased, brother- in- law James Brown of Tewksbury, Ma. He is predeceased by brother- in- law Thomas Brown of Holyoke. He also leaves behind his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are asked to meet for a Mass of Christian Burial for Mark on Friday, July 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield. Burial will follow at Forestdale Cemetery West on Rock Valley Road in Holyoke. Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 18th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Memory of Mark E.
